Growth of agriculture is inevitable as we strive to be self-sustaining locally, with 100 mile diet challenging our way of thinking of access to food. The demand for sustainably produced pesticide free foods is increasing greatly, as more people become aware of the dangers of GMO and other commodity produced foods generally available through the big food retailers that are trucked and shipped in from all over the world, with unknown farming practices.
Today people seek out farmers to get to know where their food comes from and to be certain what kind of farming practices are used, which is how they choose who to buy from. Once they feel safe with certain farmers, they are generally faithful consumers. This is what we found to be true at our markets these past two seasons. People really appreciate the good fresh tasty produce we grow, how beautiful it looks and how much better it is than store bought produce.
